So. Many. Ideas.
and the best synchronicity story!
Lord help me!
I’m a multipotentialite. What is that?
Here’s what I got from Puttylike.com:
And while a multipotentialite might eventually evolve into what historians would call a polymath, our accomplishments are not our defining feature. If anything, our curiosity is.
So many avenues to explore! So many things I want to talk about, to invest time and energy into exploring.
I’ll start with sharing my article in ShoutoutLA, as I believe I was finally able to articulate what I “do” and what my business is about in that article.
ShoutoutLA Meet Rachel Drews Interview
Secondly, I ventured up to New York (NYC) two weekends ago to celebrate the book launch of my friend, Ingrid Clayton. Click here to learn about her new best-seller called FAWNING and her work in complex trauma. It is HIGHLY relatable and may just change your view on what “people-pleasing” and “codependency” are and where they come from. Way to go, Ingrid!
Now about my adventure to the Big Apple…I had the best time! Like the best time. If you know me, you know that I don’t get that enthusiastic about NYC like so many do. All the movies made about NYC and the nostalgia, well, I don’t have it. I’ve been a couple of times before in my life and was like, Meh. It’s brown and gray. Expensive and pretentious or hurried and uncaring.
However, this time it was a perfect backdrop. It was the perfect setting for being able to fill up on what excites me: being surrounded by interesting and diverse, creative people as well as access to good food and coffee amongst a bit of a bustle. I do like a little hustle and bustle in my day. Living in Western North Carolina and working from home rarely affords the bustle (not to be confused with hustle culture). Oh, and strangers were super nice.
What was extra cool about this trip (in addition to my friend’s book launch) was: SYNCHRONICITY!
I had the WILDEST synchronistic moment, and I was ecstatic! I’m going to break it down as best I can here:
Ingrid got us tickets to the musical, MAYBE HAPPY ENDING.
I’m not a big musical person, but it was her treat and I was game and open.
I had no idea about the storyline. (Which would never be the case if it were a movie or tv show. My partner, Bunny, can attest to that.) Again, I was open to the experience.
As soon as it started, I was awestruck! It was a heart opener from the get-go. (the stage design, the lighting, the sound, the characters…)
I was like, HOLY SHIT! What have I been missing!
In the thrill of the whole 100 minute show with no intermission, one of the actors seemed familiar to me. Did I recognize him from TV? Or was he in a movie I’d seen?
The cast was made up of only about 5 people, and this familiar fella played several characters.
I was on a wide open, emotional rollercoaster the whole show. Please, treat yourselves and go see it.
I was bawling at the end. I’m telling you; it was a spiritual experience.
I also had to find out where I recognized that actor from. I had to find out what tv show or series or movie he had been in.
In the cab on our way to look for Ingrid’s new book on the shelf in a Barnes & Noble (it’s exciting to see your book on the shelf in a bookstore!) I looked up the cast.
The actor’s name is Marcus Choi.
Hmmmm….I know that name.
Y’all! You are not going to believe this, but I “think” I know him! I think…
Turns out that I had met Marcus Choi in Los Angeles through some friends of mine.
Turns out (with those friends) I had taken a HIP-HOP class from him!
Hello, Universe! It was just a fun thing we did together one afternoon. Marcus was their friend, and they had invited me to join them to learn a 2 minute hip-hop routine from him for fun! We wore baggy shirts and headbands and a few people rolled their one pant-leg up. It was a blast!
When my friend, Ferdinand, texted me back a few days later (he had been hiking in Yosemite) confirming that I did in fact meet Marcus and that he had been our hip-hop teacher and that, yes, he is killing it right now in his career, I just couldn’t believe how cool the whole synchronistic series of events played out.
I’m in NYC for my friend’s book launch. She gets us tickets to a musical the night after her launch event. Not any musical but a musical that has 6 Tony Awards® including Best Musical. Not any musical but the one musical that someone I took a hip-hop class from in a small studio in North Hollywood on a Saturday afternoon for probably $5 or $10 dollars about 15 years ago is freaking STARRING IN!
How fun is that!
I love synchronicities. I love them so much. I just feel like you can never know how interconnected our lives really are with the people we meet and the moments that overlap.
It is brilliant and delightful.
I tried to find the clip of us hip-hopping our tootsies off and cannot seem to find it. If I do, however, I promise to share.
What about you? Any synchronicities in your lives that are almost unbelievable?
In the mess and the magic,
Rachel
